Meie rännak Shakespeare’i surematute ridadega algas kaugetel 1980ndatel, mil me sonetid enda jaoks avastasime tänu Harald Rajametsa hiilgavatele tõlgetele. Esimesed katsetused näitasid, et peenutseva kammerlikkuse asemel sobib Shakespeare’i looming just sellega, mida meie teha oskame ja tahame.
See album on küpsenud ja vormunud viimase kümne aasta jooksul. Meil on rõõm tuua see nüüd kuulaja karmi ja õiglase kohtu ette.
Head kuulamist!
Album “William Shakespeare’i sonetid” on triloogia teine album. Esimene album, Déjà vu, ilmus 2025. aastal. Kolmas album ilmub 2027. aastal ja on inspireeritud Eestile pühendatud luulest.
Defying time
More than four centuries have passed since William Shakespeare’s death, yet his voice still reaches us with astonishing clarity and immediacy. Shakespeare is a master of language, capable of revealing life’s greatest and most painful truths in a single breath, only to veil them again in mystery the next. He leaves us room to reflect, to seek, to understand – and to understand anew. His is poetry that kindles the imagination, stirs the emotions, and continues to inspire.
Our own journey with Shakespeare’s immortal sonnets began in the 1980s, when we first encountered them through the brilliant Estonian translations of Harald Rajamets. At the time, neither our musical language nor our hands seemed equal to the task of clothing such greatness in sound. So we brought the Poet to the stage in another way: between our songs, we simply read his sonnets aloud from the book.
By the end of the decade, however, something had changed. Our first musical experiments revealed that Shakespeare’s poetry did not belong exclusively to refined chamber settings. On the contrary, it found a natural home in the music we felt compelled to create – the music we knew how to play, and the music we believed could carry the emotional force of his words.
This album has taken shape over the past ten years. It has grown patiently, finding its own voice and its own form. Today, we are honoured to place it before you, the listener, trusting it to your fair and discerning judgement.
We wish you an inspiring listening experience.
